How was nuclear war avoided?

The situation of the Cuban missile crisis could have gone worsor and turn into a nuclear war. But the empathy between Krushchev and Kennedy saved the possible existence of the nuclear war. Through the messaging between Krushchev and Kennedy, the two leaders slowly understands each other's concerns and worries; and eventualy realized that both sides meant no harm.
